After the success of Maria Flordeluna, Annaliza was supposed to be remade last 2008, to be led by Ella Cruz as the young Annaliza and Maja Salvador as the teenage Annaliza, but ABS-CBN decided to shelve the show.

In March 2013, ABS-CBN announced that the classic soap will return on TV and will be one of Kapamilya Network's second quarter offerings for 2013.

On September 2013, Andrea Brillantes announced on ASAP 18 that the series will be extended until 2014 because of its big success.

Difference

Top: Anna Liza (1980) Bottom: Annaliza (2013)

  • The protagonist's name and title does not separate the two first names Anna and Liza.
  • The family name of Annaliza was renamed Benedicto instead of Santiago.
  • Scenes featuring Annaliza praying in front of the Sta. Nino figure is rarely seen.

  • Isabel and Lazaro appeared younger in unlike in their original counterpart whereas they are in their 50s.
  • Guido's characterization is opposite to his original counterpart. He appears to be a good father, rather than a antagonistic. However, a new character named Makoy had a similar characterization to Guido's original counterpart.
  • In the remake, Cathy is innocent and she never bullies Annaliza unlike her original counterpart.
  • Greg is absent in the remake however, his characterization was placed on Guido.
  • Ricky had a minor role in the remake.
  • Nanette was absent in the remake as she was replaced by Glenn. Also in the original series, Glenn was introduced in the series as a teenager. Similar to the original series, Glenn also courted Annaliza.
  • Lester is absent in the remake however, there is a different side character who had the same name as him.
  • Arlene is the illegitimate child of Stella and Lazaro in the remake series. In the original, Arlene is not an illegitimate child of Lazaro.
